AZ played its first dollarpese game of the season last Thursday. The Alkmaar club took on Tuzla City in the preliminary rounds of the UEFA Conference League. AZ was clearly the parent party, but only won 1-0. The lead is minimal, so the team can expect a tough night in Bosnia & Herzegovina. The match will kick off on Thursday evening July 28 at 20:45.
AZ won the first game against Tuzla City 1-0 by a goal from Dani de Wit. The midfielder scored from the penalty spot in the first half. AZ recorded 18 goal attempts, versus four goal attempts by the visitors. There was mainly a lack of creativity within the squad, which is largely due to the fact that tastemaker Jesper Karlsson was not there due to an injury. The Swede will most likely also have to miss the away game in the Conference League. Last weekend, AZ won 1-0 in a friendly against Italian Bologna.
Tuzla City managed to keep the damage limited and can therefore still hope for the next round in the Conference League. In the previous round, the team won 6-0 at home against the small team Tre Penne. Tuzla City finished in 2nd place in the Bosnian league last season, partly because of the good results they managed to achieve at home. However, Tuzla City will not play a home match either, as it has to move to Sarajevo. The own stadium does not meet the requirements of UEFA.
