Nieuwegein is a brand new city and municipality that was founded in 1971 as a result of large-scale new construction around Utrecht. Due to its central location and the short distance to Utrecht, Nieuwegein is therefore a popular place to live. As a result, the city has more facilities than you might expect, with the highlight being Cityplaza, a large shopping center in the middle of Nieuwegein.
