Research programme’ Prevention of gambling addiction ' launched

Gambling authority
(Ksa) has commissioned ZonMw to start a new research programme. The ‘Prevention of gambling addiction’ program will be funded by the addiction fund of the Gambling Authority. The independent research should provide a better understanding of gambling addiction and its prevention in New Zealand. The news was confirmed by both the Gaming Authority and ZonMw on their own platform.
Prior to the research programme, the Trimbos institute was asked to start a preliminary investigation. The institute focused on a literature study in the field of gambling addictions and Prevention. An agenda was then drawn up, which shows that the research project will last no less than three years. During the period, the research hopes to be able to scale up, for example by entering into international collaborations. There are also two rounds of subsidies. The first round of subsidies will be on the agenda in early 2023.
The research costs are financed by The Addiction Prevention Fund (VPF) of the Kansspelautoriteit (Ksa). Since the legalization of online gambling, all legal gambling operators must give an amount to the fund. This is a legal requirement from the government. The amounts received by The Addiction Prevention Fund are also used by Kansspel ticket offices and other bodies dealing with gambling addictions and, in particular, the Prevention of possible addiction.
