Heads up Hold'em poker as a player, you try to get a higher poker hand than the dealer. With this it is similar to Ultimate Texas Hold'em , a version that (sometimes with a slightly different name) also appears in regular casinos and other developers. A player plays Heads Up Hold'em with hundreds of players at once, but during the game he or she still makes his or her own decisions. There are several rounds in which players can make a difference, but by the side bets players also have a chance for extra big wins.

Developer Playtech is working on an impressive catch-up race. After Evolution Gaming as the market leader has released a large number of poker games, it follows Playtech since the end of 2020 with similar games that are just a little different. That catch-up also means that players are not yet encountering Playtech (and therefore Heads Up Hold'em) everywhere, but playing at Royal Vegas Casino players can definitely find this game.

Heads Up Hold'em plays largely according to the same rules as Ultimate Texas Hold'em. A player plays against the dealer and tries to make a higher poker hand than the dealer. Each player (the player and the dealer) is dealt two cards and in the middle are five cards. The five highest cards from the two in the player's 'hand' and the five on the table make up the poker hand.
After a player has placed the regular bets, there are three choices in which he or she can increase the bet: after the player has received the first two cards (pocket), after the flop (the first three community cards) and after the ‘river’ (the last card to be dealt). The earlier the bet, the higher the ‘raise’ and the more the player can win: after the pocket 3x his or her basic bet, after the fold 2x and after the river 1x. once the player has increased the bet, there are no more choice moments.

The normal bet of the player (without bonus bets) consists of three parts: the ante, odds and raise bets. The ante and odds are linked and the player must bet. In addition, the player also has a raise bet if the outcome is known; if the player does not bet the raise at the last choice moment, the hand counts as a ‘fold’. With these three parts of the bet, different things happened depending on the outcome.
If the dealer does not have a qualifying hand – i.e. lower than a pair – the player gets the ante and raise bet back without a win and the odds are paid out to the paytable if you do win as a player. If the dealer wins with a pair or higher, the poker player loses all regular bets, unless you as a player have at least a straight – this gives him or her a bonus based on the paytable.
If the player wins against a qualifying hand of the dealer, it gets back double the ante and raise bets (1x the BET and 1x the win) and pays out the odds according to the paytable where the player earns more with a better hand (from three of a kind). If the player has a hand that is worth less than three of a kind, he or she gets the odds back without a win.
The two bonus bets are Trips Plus and the Pocket Bonus. Trips Plus always pays out if you have a three of a kind or better as a player, with a higher hand yielding more. The Pocket Bonus gives the player a win if the two cards of his or her make a certain combination. Below, two tables explain exactly how much a player can earn with these bonus bets.
Poker hand | Payout (x the stake) |
---|---|
Three of a Kind | 4x |
Straight | 5x |
Flush | 8x |
Full House | 9x |
Four of a Kind | 31x |
Straight Flush | 41x |
Royal Flush | 101x |
As a player, you will only know if you have won the Trips Plus Bonus Bet when the game is over. With the Pocket Bonus, you as a player already know after your first two cards whether you have won or not.

Playtech has a formidable competitor for the Texas Hold'em variant with Heads Up Hold'em by Evolution Gaming . The games work in much the same way, but with Heads Up Hold'em a player has a chance of higher bets (and therefore higher winnings) and you have two bonus bets as a player. Especially the Pocket Bonus bet is a nice addition that a poker player certainly does not encounter everywhere. In addition to these extras, Playtech generally provides a great gaming experience that you can spend hours with as a player.
